Living the Royal life with David Dunkley at The Black Box Boutique

I’ve been working in Yorkville for almost a full year now, but I haven’t gotten bored with it just yet. Awesome job + coworkers aside, I’m also working in one of my favourite areas of the city. Surrounded by luxury shops, tiny boutiques and delicious eats, it’s hard not to love spending time in Yorkville. While I’m always discovering new ways to blow my paycheque thanks to the bevy of tempting shops, I hadn’t popped into The Black Box Boutique until I was invited to check out their trunk show featuring David Dunkley of KCs Hats and Tara Fava Jewellery.

The shop is gorgeous, to say the least. Along with the naturally stunning hardwood floors and exposed brick, it’s also home to some of the most eye-catching jewelry and headpieces I’ve ever seen. Curated by the lovely Lilla, The Black Box Boutique has everything from everyday baubles to special occasion statement pieces. My eyes lit up when I saw the beautiful collection of hats from David Dunkley of KCs Hats.

The trunk show featured a mix of bridal and everyday (OK, special occasion – a girl can dream) headpieces that were begging to be tried on. I’m betting my excitement was palpable, since milliner David Dunkley asked if we could play dress-up. I gleefully agreed and was able to try on everything from beautiful bridal fascinators and veils to extravagant feathered headpieces fit for the Royal Ascot.

I fell in love with this birdcage bridal piece and, thanks to the photo taken by the lovely Deanne of My Fash Avenue, we may have found Toronto blogger Tiffany Mealia find the perfect headpiece for her big day.

The headpieces above are just begging to be added to my wardrobe. In fact, I’m thinking I need to throw a tea party just so I have an excuse to pick one up. Starting at $85 and moving upwards in price from there, with custom work available, David Dunkley’s millinery is something beautiful to aspire to.

After my fascinator dress-up party, I took at peek at the glitzy Tara Fava jewelry on display. For anyone getting married or preparing for a special occasion, I’d recommend a trip to The Black Box Boutique in a second – between David Dunkley and Tara Fava’s collections, you’d be pretty much set.

Speaking of things I’d love to add to my collection, this 5-strand Wedluxe Bib Necklace (above) is screaming my name. Paired with a strapless wedding dress or, say, my emerald green Pink Tartan dress this Swarovski crystal piece is as versatile as it is glitzy.

To put it plainly, after the David Dunkley + Tara Fava trunk show at The Black Box Boutique in Yorkville, I want all the shiny and glamorous things. Surprise, surprise. Whether you’re planning your wedding or just like expanding your accessory wardrobe with gorgeous creations (and what girl doesn’t), a trip to The Black Box Boutique is a must. Lilla – prepare yourself. You might just be getting lunchtime visits from me on the regular.

    • @SDGreenall Right?! My dream is to have a tea party for my future bridal shower 😉 so hopefully I’ll have an excuse to buy a lovely hat someday! If all else fails, we should host a Derby Day party next year.
