5 steps to perfect brows

Season after season, there’s one trend that seems to always remain – bold, beautiful brows. Well-groomed arches frame your face and define your eyes, whether or not you’re wearing makeup. You can get and maintain your own bold beautiful brows in 5 easy steps.

Brow Rehab + Professional Shaping.

Wimpy brows don’t do anyone any favours. Exhibit A:

Grade 11 Steph was already a beauty-lover but may have been just a little tweezer happy. If your brows look like this (or worse), step away from the tweezers and give them a few weeks to recover. The same goes for if you’re unhappy with your current shape. Let them grow out and seek professional help. Go to the best brow technician you can find and have them re-shape your arches to take the guesswork out of it. Think of the cost as an investment – from here on in, you’ll be able to DIY with only 4 products.

Benefit Cosmetics Gimme Brow ($26), Tweezerman Brow Trimming Scissors & Brush ($19), Tweezerman Mini Slant Tweezer ($15)

These are, bar none, my favourite brow products. I’m a Tweezerman Ambassador, which is only fitting since I’ve been using the products for years. I find the Mini Slant Tweezer easier to use than the full-size versions since it’s easier to get up close & control. The Tweezerman Brow Trimming Scissors are specially designed to be easy-to-use and comfortable – super important since trimming your own eyebrows can feel really awkward with the wrong pair of scissors. Benefit Gimme Brow is a brand new product that I can’t say enough about. It magically fills in sparse brows, creating brows where there were none, and looks completely natural. Check out this video on the Home Shopping Network if you’re not yet convinced.

Your professional shaping will last for a few weeks, depending on how quickly your hair grows. After that, you can maintain the look yourself in 4 easy steps that will take 15 minutes or less. Doing your brows yourself will save you a ton of money in the long-run (I haven’t had a professional shaping since high school!) and is also pretty rewarding.

How to: do your own eyebrows

How to - Perfect Brows - Gimme Brow Review

  1. Using a a spooley brush (or clean mascara wand), brush your eyebrows upwards. This will show you the natural upper arch of your brow along with revealing any hair that’s grown in below the arch.
  2. Using the slanted tweezers, carefully remove any extraneous hairs by gripping them at the root and quickly pulling them out. Only remove those that aren’t a part of your arch! You don’t want to undo all the work of your professional brow shaping.
  3. Brush your brows upwards again using the spooley brush. Using the scissors, trim any extra-long hair.
  4. Fill in your brows with Benefit Gimme Brow. Remove any excess product from the brush, then brush along the brow, wiggling to deposit more product in sparse areas. Gimme Brow will grab any tiny hairs and “volumize” them, making your brows look fuller and more defined. Define your brows each morning with Gimme Brow to maintain a groomed, full look.

I’ve been trying to thicken up my ‘brows for the past 2 years, especially by my nose where it starts (not unibrowin’)… and last Friday my co-worker looked over at me and said in a concerned voice “Uh… Nancy? I think you have PEN on your eyebrow!?” …. I assured her it was my stray brows and she got closer and said “no no. Oh wait omg I’m so sorry it IS your eyebrows” lol. Huge. Total fail. Maybe I just need to face the fact that they’ll never grow thick there again.

    • spiffykerms Honestly, give Benefit Gimme Brow a try. It latches on to sparse little hairs and makes them look big and full. Might work!
