Can you believe the last long weekend of the summer is almost here? Summer has slipped by and, other than the weeks-long heatwaves, almost feels like it never happened at all. I’ve been digging into my bookshelf like crazy all summer long, re-connecting with one of my favourite pastimes. If you want to spend a few lazy hours wrapped up in a book over the long weekend, give one of these a try.
Something Thrilling: I Let You Go
If you loved Girl On The Train and Gone Girl, you’ll love Clare Mackintosh’s I Let You Go. A mysterious thriller with a side of (light) romance, this book follows Jenna Gray as she tries to escape the car accident that haunts her dreams. Constant twists and turns – down to the last page – will keep you glued to the pages until the wee hours of the morning. As soon as you think you’ve solved the mystery, Part 2 begins and you’re left without a leg to stand on. And then everything falls into place and you’re thrown for a loop again.
Something Romantic: Me Before You
If you haven’t read Me Before You yet, download it on your Kobo ASAP. I somehow let this novel slip by until just before the movie ended in theaters and regretted it immediately. This is the perfect sappy, sucks-you-in kind of read that screams long weekend. Fair warning: there will be tears. A lot of them. The kind that make your husband wonder what on earth you’d been doing the hour before he got home from work. Best paired with tissues.
Something Girly: First Comes Love
First and foremost, this book is about families, love and sisterhood. If you’re looking a little bit of romance, this doesn’t disappoint – there are just so many other elements weaved in. It’s a quick, engaging read about two sisters who live absolutely different lives after a tragedy and the journey they take to self-discovery and recovery. It’s not the lightest read, but the humorous elements make it perfect for a long-weekend reset.
Happy long weekend! Let me know which of these you’ll be settling down with in the comments…and be sure to let me know if you have any recommendations for me! xo[disclaim]First Comes Love and I Let You Go were sent to me by the publisher for consideration. I read – and enjoyed – both of them! [/disclaim]
