The Enabler Report: January Favourites

If you’re looking to nourish your skin, update your makeup bag and add a little something special to your everyday, you’re in for a treat. My January favourites are extensive but are each as lovely as can be. Welcome to the first Enabler Report of 2017!

I’ve been raving about Consonant HydrExtreme since the moment I got it. This Canadian-made serum is the type of product where you see an immediate benefit when you apply, only improving after a few months of use. I’ve been testing out this lightweight, natural serum since November and am about to repurchase – full price. If you want to plump, hydrate and add an immediate glow to your skin, give this cult-classic product a try. With only two ingredients and such amazing efficacy, this is a natural product that I can get behind.

I was casually minding my own business on Twitter one day when I spotted Lesa Hannah’s interview with Sali Hughes, the author of Pretty IconicI immediately sent the link to my beauty-loving group chat and purchased it for myself. This is a book written with beauty nerds in mind. And yes, if you’re sitting here reading my monthly favourites, you’re probably one yourself. Featuring over 200 iconic beauty products, this book is equal parts a walk down memory lane, history lesson and recommendation list. I’m enthralled by mentions of vintage products and the origins of some of my favourites and I bet you will be, too.

If a pretty, minimalist and fashionable watch is on your list this season, you’ll want to check out the Linjer The Classic Watch. I ordered this off the ragingly successful Kickstarter campaign in rose gold / navy (with an additional cognac leather band) and it’s become a mainstay in my wardrobe. From someone who doesn’t wear things on her wrists – unless they’re hair elastics – that’s saying a lot. With a timeless aesthetic and permium Swiss Ronda movement, a domed sapphire crystal and full grain vegetable-tanned leather from Italy, this watch is a purchase you can feel good about. Disclosure: my friend Jenn from high school co-founded Linjer, but I’m supporting the product because I genuinely love its look and construction.

I’m just going to throw this out there – if you’re over Becca Champagne Pop, you’re not alone. Don’t get me wrong – the vlogger-favourite highlighter still has a place in my makeup wardrobe, but I’ve moved on from everyday wear and gratuituous special occasion application. My new everyday glow is courtesy of RMS Beauty Living Luminizer – a natural-looking cream highliter spiked with coconut oil and featuring more natural ingredients. This is a plush, silvery highlight that looks like your skin’s natural glow and just makes your skin look amazing. If you’d prefer more of a golden sheen, try the Magic Luminizer instead. I can’t stop recommending this product and went so far as to apply it on my mom’s face at a family lunch. It’s truly magical.

I’m so excited that lip glosses are back in fashion and that we can step away from the uber-mattes for a hot minute. I recently purchased two nude-for-me shades that I’ve been wearing every single day and I can’t stop raving about the formulas. If you’re ready to get your gloss on in a big way, pick up the Bite Beauty Lush Fruit Lip Gloss in Currant. This plummy shade adds a gorgeous sheen to your lips and is on the slippery-er side of sticky. For a more sophisticated, opaque look, I love the luxurious whipped texture of NARS Velvet Lip Glide  – shown here in the shade Bound. On me, this is the perfect amped up my-lips-but-better shade. It lasts through my morning coffee, but isn’t what I would consider long-wearing. Regardless, I love the hue and texture and how it ties any look together.

If this winter weather has you down and drab, Lush Cup O’ Coffee Face & Body Mask will be the ultimate pick-me up for your skin and senses. Scrubby and spiked with coffee, slathering on this mask and swiping it off will leave you with illuminated, exfoliated and glowing skin. Kaolin helps to cleanse your skin of impurities while the ground coffee does double duty as scrub and olfactory boost. I love to use it in the mornings, but it’s also a fantastic enabler when you’re trying to psyche yourself up for a night out.

Part of my nighttime routine is to massage the Jo Malone Dark Amber & Ginger Lily Body Creme into my skin post-bath. I’m not one to be religious about body moisturizer (bad, I know), but this one is a joy to use. The thick, whipped cream texture melts gorgeously into the skin but it’s the sensual scent that keeps me coming. The scent is unlike anythign I’d ever pick out for myself, but I’m addicted to it. With notes of amber and black orchid along with black cardamom and water lilly, the scent is warming and a little sexy. Best of all, the fragrance – and moisture – lingers for hours. I can’t take the credit for this one – it was part of my Christmas gift from Mike! (Psst… please buy me the fragrance next.)

If you’re looking for a ringing nail polish endorsement, here it is: I only have Essie Gel Couture Polishes in my collection right now. Seriously. On me, this at-home weekly gel system lasts nearly the full week – miraculous for someone who types all day (and night). I’ve been especially excited about the latest Ballet Nudes collection and scoured my local shops until I finally found it at Trade Secrets. My go-to colours recently have been Perfect Posture (muted, icy blue), Hold the Position (peachy pink) and Stitch By Stitch (a dusty rose from a previous collection). If your goal is to kick your professional manicure habit in 2017, this long-lasting polish is step one.

Above, you’ll see a palette that is very well-loved.  Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Eyeshadow Palette is a magical array of shimmery + matte shades that create a wide range of eye looks from natural to deep & smoky. Flower Child is extra wonderful when paired with a little MAC Fix+. These are highly pigmented shadows, so when it comes to the darker ones, you only need a little bit to get your blend on. If you’re on the hunt for a new neutral palette, this one is for you!

That’s all for this month! I’m not sure yet how the Enabler Report will evolve in 2017 – it might even become weekly again! Or maybe I’ll finally post that video I shot alongside these photos… – but rest assured it’s still here and offering up the levels of enabling you’ve come to expect.

Let me know what’s on your wishlist in the comments! xo
