I love a good scent story – just ask me to name what I was wearing on my first date, first day of high school, when I met my university boyfriend, on my wedding day – and I’ll tell you what it was & how it fit just right.
So, when The Globe & Mail asked me to participate in a sponsored program around Calvin Klein euphoria and to translate that scent story into a beauty story, I jumped at the chance. Also – hello – what writer would’t want to get published in a national newspaper? I’ve been pumped to share all this with you since my brother’s girlfriend shot the photos back in February! I’m even more excited now that I know who the other beauty writers I’m featured with are: Janine of BeautyGeeks and Eugenia from Ommorphia. I am a little fish, you guys. These ladies are internet beauty institutions and I’m a bit starstruck to be on a page with them.
You can catch the inspiration for my euphoria-inspired beauty look in the Spring 2016 edition of Globe & Mail Style Advisor – you can download the Globe Style app if you missed the hard copy in last week’s Saturday issue, but keep reading for the products I used and more snaps of the final look.
Euphoria is quite the sexy fragrance – it has notes of pomegranate, black orchid, and lotus blossom among other deep florals and sensual, creamy layers – which means I got to have a lot of fun creating what I consider the perfect date night look. Imagine the look on my family’s face when I showed up to my grandfather’s (daytime) birthday party in February rocking this full, sultry face!
I always gravitate towards plum shades and shimmery neutrals, so the eyes were an easy pick for me. I blended the rose- & gold-hued shadows in the Urban Decay Naked3 Palette with the deepest, plummiest shade from Tarte Cosmetics’ Tartelette palette to create a look that was deep but also wearable.
Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner stays fresh and crisp even when things get, shall we say…steamy. An extra fluttering on the lashline thanks to Kiss Looks So Natural Lashes in Poise and a few coats of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara and the eyes have it.
After prepping my skin with Dermalogica Skin Boosting Serum, I layered on some Becca Backlight Priming Filter and followed with NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint. The sexiest skin always errs on the side of natural – you can still see my freckles! – with an ethereal glow. I love that this skin tint perfects without hiding and looks like fresh, real skin.
I blended my holy grail concealer – NARS Creamy Radiant Concealer in Vanilla – under my eyes and then added a gentle contour and highlight with Joe Fresh Champagne Highlighter Powder and Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer. Again, you want to look glowy and natural…but better.
Lips & Cheeks
For serious stay-all-night power, I reached for my favourite dual-purpose stain – Benefit PosieTint. The original version of this formula was designed to tint exotic dancers’ nipples, so you know it has staying power! The gel consistency of the stain blends beautifully on the cheeks to a natural flush and layers up to the perfect pink pout on the lips.

I hope you enjoyed this peek at my first-ever time in print with a major brand! This kind of thing is so exciting to me and I really hope I get the opportunity to do more of it in the future.
If you missed it in print the first time, a little birdie told me the same ad will be in the Style section on May 7 😉
