Celebrate: love month activities in Toronto

Full disclosure: there’s a lot of Valentine’s Day content coming your way in the next few weeks. Single or attached, I’ve always loved this holiday dedicated to love. Enough so that I fully condone more than one night of celebrating. Toronto’s got a few awesome things in the pipe, whether you’re looking to hang out with your friends, that special someone, find yourself a date in time for the big night or show your love to your furry friend. I hereby deem February “Love Month”.

Love month events toronto

February 2 – Picture Me Pretty

This is a kill three birds with one stone event that you can’t miss: it’s pretty much the best way to start the month of love if you’re single. Spend February 2nd at the BlushPretty studios in Toronto for an afternoon of relationship advice, grooming and professional photo-taking. You’ll leave full of knowledge, prettified by some of the best in the biz and with a shiny new profile photo to get out there and find Mr. Right (or Mr. Right Now).

The session is $80 – worth it for the professional photos alone (not to mention the dating advice and mini-makeover by some of the industry’s best) – and is hosted by BlushPretty, Flirt Custom Lash and Rhokin Studio.

February 12 – Paws for the Cause

Must love dogs? Have I got the event for you. One of my favourite events of the season, Paws for the Cause is taking on a sexy twist this year by only featuring adorable pups but also encouraging dog-lovers to find their perfect human companion, too. Remember the little Valentine’s Day mailbox you got to put on your desk at school? The event will feature a retro love note wall where you can leave a note for the object of your affection in their mailbox. Just try to avoid the “do you love me? Check yes/no/maybe” trap this time around ;).

Already have a date or really want to up the ante for your special someone? Enter the Dawg Show. The Paws team is auctioning off the city’s steamiest bachelors for a date on Valentine’s Day at a hot Toronto restaurant. Yes – you could get in at that restaurant you’ve been trying to get a reservation at for months with dinner and some drinks included. Single? Bid on the guy. Attached? Ditch him and bring your honey instead – he won’t mind.

Tickets are $69 and can be purchased here. All proceeds from the evening benefit the Paws for the Cause scholarship for a veterinary student – the Chloe Award – at the University of Guelph, as well as the university’s Pet Trust Fund.

February 13:  Love a Heart

Want to spent more time with your internet friends, help to raise money for a good cause and maybe get a cool date with someone you want to get to know IRL? Head over to The Hideout for the 4th annual Love a Heart Bachelor & Bachelorette Auction in support of the Heart & Stroke Foundation. 10 bachelors and 10 bachelorettes are up for grabs along with amazing dates (past years have seen tough-to-get concert and sporting event tickets donated). Bids start at $25 and tickets are $5 so bring your friends & prepare to up the bids on your favourite internet buds. Tickets are available at the door, or you purchase in advance here.

February 13 – 17: Art is Sexy at Paintlounge

Looking for the perfect date (or perfect way to spend the gushy evening)? Take a cue from the romantics of yore and spend your night at Paintlounge from Feb 13 – 17. Whether you have Picasso or kindergartener levels of artistic abilities, I can guarantee you’ll have fun. I spent my girlfriend Jaime’s birthday at Paintlounge last spring and loved every second.

The Valentine’s Package sounds like a great deal at $65 for 2-3 hours of sensual brushstroking with other amorous couples (or slightly-bitter singles). The package includes:

  • Two solo freestyle sessions (two 16×20″ canvases, all supplies and cleanup, and friendly staff to help you out)
  • A Valentine’s dessert made with love by Awesome in a Box

Book your evening here.

February 24: National Cupcake Day in support of the OSPCA

Spread the love to furry friends in need during the second annual National Cupcake Day. Across the country, Canadians will “bake a difference” through hosting National Cupcake Day parties for friends, colleagues and family with all proceeds going to benefit SPCAs and Humane Societies. National Cupcake Day™ will help shelters across Canada give a surrendered animal a new forever home; rescue a neglected or abused animal and give it a second chance at a new life; and provide emergency surgery to injured animals. Sign up to host a National Cupcake Day Party or donate here.
