Last weekend I brought you part 1 in my Confessions of a Beauty Junkie series, focusing on how to create the perfect canvas for the rest of your makeup.
This time I’m going to focus on the products you need to create the perfect eye look.
Having the right eye makeup can make or break your look, since it’s so easy to overdo it or pick the wrong colours. However, this is also the area where you can have the most fun – there are so many options!
The Perfect Palette – Benefit Smokin’ Eyes (Sephora, ~$36)
Whether you’re new to makeup or an old pro, you can’t go wrong with this palette by Benefit. The compliments will roll in (they do for me!) on the perfect smoky eye that is a cinch to create with this kit (and enclosed instructions). The three long-lasting shadows, highlighter, eyeliner, and tinted brow gel create an eye look that is unmatched and always sexy. The best part? It takes only a few minutes and can be made more or less dramatic depending how far you extend the shadow & how much of the darkest shade you use. This kit easily goes from day to night.
Eyeliner: Stila smudge pots (Sephora, ~20)
Eyeliners are, admittedly, a dime a dozen. Beyond that, it’s rare that one really stands out. That’s why I’m not going to extoll the virtues of the kohl Chanel liner I’m currently using but this Stila gel liner instead. Stila smudge pots give a lot of bang for your buck, last through a night of dancing, and are simple to use. If your smudge pot dries out, just a little dab of water is enough to revive it. The liner glides on smoothly with an angled brush and smudges out with little effort.
This is the ultimate cult classic eyelash curler. The line is currently discontinued in the States, but is still available in Canada at Holt Renfrew and, as far as I know, at Sephora. The best finish to any great eye look is a curly fringe.
Mascara: Benefit BADgal Lash (Sephora, ~ $19)
If you’re looking for the blackest, most voluminous fringe, look no further. Benefit’s BADgal Lash thickens but never clumps and lasts all day long. It’s also layer-able, should you decide you need a extra drama at at the end of your 9-5. This mascara is not for the faint of heart – you will seriously look like you’re sporting a set of falsies. I’m often asked about whether I’m wearing fake lashes – the #1 reason this has been my go-to mascara since high school.
