The most cliche August thing to say: I have no idea where the summer has gone! But honestly, it feels like just yesterday we were gearing up for the May 2-4 weekend and here we are in the last month of the season. I, for one, plan to extend it as long as possible. This collection from Dior was one I received almost two months ago but it was neglected for far too long.
I’m seriously chastising myself for waiting so long to dig into it – the bright, poppy colours are just the thing for summer. In limited edition shades of a royal purple, punchy pink + golden yellow plus the permanent new kohl shade, these new additions are surprisingly easy to wear. But more on that later. First, swatches!
Why would one buy Dior shadow when there’s probably a drugstore dupe for a fraction of the cost? The formula. These shadows are incredibly silky and can be worn wet or dry. They’re also extremely buildable – you can wear them as a simple wash of colour or build them up to an intense, bold hue. They apply true to what’s in the pan. The swatches above include the liner as well. Yes, pink liquid liner. I’ve been loving it above my usual black cat eye liquid liner – such a fun surprise!
The collection also includes coloured mascara, a huge trend this year. These can be worn alone or on top of black mascara for a hit of colour. I’m partial to the purple – I was that girl who wore Urban Decay Skyscraper Mascara in Eggplant all through high school – because it’s subtle. I didn’t find the pink extremely wearable but I’m not the most adventurous.
Speaking of being adventurous…just because it’s Dior I put on a quick look of the pink and yellow eye shadows with a smudge of the purple liquid liner on my bottom lashes. Instead of making me look sickly – what you’d expect when hearing about pink or yellow eye shadow – it actually gives a gorgeous sunset effect.
These unreal lashes are sadly not my naturals – they’re extensions by Shawna at Me & T Studio! Aren’t they lovely? I really miss them.
If you have the chance to get your hands on some of Dior’s Diorshow Mono eye shadows, do it! I love all of the ones I was able to test out, but I’m surprisingly really partial to the yellow! It errs more on the side of gold then “banana” and would be a great addition to any makeup collection.
