5-minute DIY: holiday ornament keepsake

For magpie-types like myself, the holidays can be a dangerous time to set foot into any store. All that glitters is proudly on display and it’s all I can do to keep my blinders on and wallet relatively full. I wasn’t so lucky this weekend when dropping into Starbucks to indulge in a peppermint mocha with my fiancé, but luckily this pretty little thing isn’t a budget buster at all.

Starbucks Create Your Own Ornament DIY review

I couldn’t help but pick up this white & gold Create Your Own Ornament from Starbucks. I don’t feel that I need to explain why, but I’ll state the obvious – it’s gold! I’m a sucker for anything sentimental and gold and this ornament was no exception. Our proposal story involves a box of Tazo tea from Starbucks so it really wasn’t a stretch for my brain to go from “oooh, gold!” to thinking about how cute it would look with a little engagement ring drawing and our engagement date on it. Yes, I went there.

I now have a million ideas of how I can customize these for the gold and Starbucks-lovers in my life. Consider, if you will, a little teddy bear or pacifier for Baby’s First Christmas, two rings intertwined for a first married Christmas, or even a “will you be my bridesmaid” with your wedding date as a cute way to ask your ladies to join you at the altar. I guess you could even be less twee and customize them with your friends’ names, but evidently I have milestones on the brain these days. At about $8 each, more than a few of you might find these attached to your holiday gifts this year – consider yourselves forewarned.

Have I mentioned this only takes 5 minutes? Easy-peasy and so lovely. Happy crafting!
