Adulthood is a strange, strange beast. I’m not sure when Real Simple became more than a weird magazine my cousin Sara insisted I flip through on vacation or when spending 15 minutes taking glamour shots of your tomato plants became the norm, but we’re there. Adulthood is not only squealing over an air-purifying fan that has its own app but screenshotting the air quality monitoring screen and forcing them on your Instagram followers. And your husband.
About a month ago, the team from Dyson sent along the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link, a magical machine that purifies, heats and cools the air in your space, so I could give it a whirl and participate in the Purifier Challenge.
If you’ve been following along in our condo escapades, you’ll know that I’ve (mostly) embraced the transition…with a few exceptions. The biggest offender: our unit didn’t include a storage locker so I’m constantly justifying my trips to HomeSense for more ‘creative storage solutions’ (read: knick knacks and baskets) to house my goodies.
And then there’s the non-stop dust-fest that caused me to obsessively Swiffer, Dyson and polish every surface in the first months after we moved in, especially once Charlie arrived. I’m allergic to cats, so rescuing our little furball came with a whole new cleaning and sanitizing frenzy. Coupled with HVAC that was temperamental at best – humid, frizz-inducing temps and ice packs under our pillows at night were the norm – and our place felt less than liveable.
Why Buy The Pure Dyson Hot + Cool Link
The Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link is a pretty special home appliance and is perfect for people with similar concerns to ours: pet dander, allergens and the need for customized heating and cooling. If you’re obsessed with metrics and, dare I say, gamification, you’ll love the accompanying app that lets you track air quality and purification. A few quick facts about the fan:
-
- 360˚ Glass HEPA filter: captures 99.97% of allergens and pollutants as small as 0.3 microns, including pollen and allergens, bacteria, dust and mould spores, pet dander and potentially harmful ultrafine particles, trapping them in the filter and eliminating them from the air you breathe.
- Purifies, heats and cools you: fast even room heating in winter, powerful personal cooling in summer and intelligent purification all year round.
- Intelligently and automatically monitors, reacts and purifies: automatically maintains the air quality in your home and reports live indoor and outdoor air quality metrics to the Dyson Link App on your smartphone.
- Captures smells: an activated carbon layer in the filter captures odours and potentially harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs), like paint fumes.
Does it work?
Since the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool Link‘s arrival, we’ve experienced noticeable and measurable differences in the air quality and dust reduction in our condo and always stay cool. We’re constantly opening up the app in the middle of the day to check in on our automatic air purification schedule and spend more time than I’d like to admit analyzing the air quality stats.
Here’s a look at the first night we ran the fan. As you can see, things took a turn for the better pretty quickly!
We’ve noticed a few cool things, like how the air quality always decreases when we’re cooking (the wonders of open-concept space) and the fan automatically turns itself on to purify. The accompanying app also means we may or may not play remote jokes on one another. Remember: not a ghost, just a really, really smart fan.
Take the Dyson Purifier Challenge
If you’re thinking of adding a purifier, fan or heater to your home comfort arsenal, this is the perfect time to do so. Until July 28, those who purchase a Dyson Air Purifier will receive a free filter replacement (valued at $99.99) before six months of usage. You’ll always know when to replace your filter because the app lets you know how long it’s been purifying (magic, I’m telling you).
And if you’re curious whether a $699 fan is really worth it, I’d argue it is. We’ve had the original Hot + Cool bladeless fan for years, since my grandfather ‘lent’ me his to help out with my temperature insensitive bedroom at my parents. It did the best job of keeping me cool in the summer and warm in the winter in my bedroom that was notoriously brutal in extreme temperatures thanks to being located right on top of the garage. Now that we have this new version (with purifier!) I should probably return Nonno’s to him…
Thank you to Dyson for sending along this fan! While this is not a sponsored post, I was provided with product in exchange for sharing the Dyson Purifier Challenge with you.
