I will readily admit I have a polish problem. I may or may not have an armoire full of various brands, too-similar shades and a million topcoats. So, obviously, when Nail Polish Canada asked if I’d like to try a new polish line they recently began carrying called Rainbow Honey (cutest name ever, right?) and I jumped at the chance. The polishes are colourful, unique, 3-free (no formaldehyde, toluene or dibutyl phthalate) and are never tested on animals. Most of the shades I tested were from the Summer of 199X collection. You can’t help but love this packaging and the simple-but-adorable graphic on the bottles.
Apple Kid is the quintessential summer mani/pedi shade, a hot pink with a subtle shimmer. It was opaque in two coats.
Fire Spring was my favourite of the bunch. An orange shimmer with holographic glitter, it’s the kind of polish that looks pretty in the bottle but is seriously a dream once you apply. I can’t wait to wear this all summer long.
Tessie is a light purple polish with a subtle blue shimmer that I was hoping could stand up to my favourite discontinued lavender shade, OPI’s Done Out In Deco. Of all the shades, I found it to be least true to what showed in the bottle. It applied a bit streakily.
The Kraken is a sheer polish infused with a ton of glitter, a blue-ish green jelly base with tons of blue & green glitter throughout. It’s the nail polish The Little Mermaid would have worn.
Judgement Bolt is gold and iridescent glitter in a clear base, perfect for layering over top of another polish. There’s quite a bit of glitter in there – you won’t reach opacity but definitely could get close with a few coats.
I was impressed with the colour and formula quality of Rainbow Honey, especially at the $11.50 price point. This is a brand I’d look to for the truly unique shades you might not get from more mainstream brands – Fire Spring, for example, is a polish I can’t wait to wear again and again. I’ve never seen another shade like it!
