Fall Wardrobe Essentials

The leaves in my backyard have started turning, so I’m officially ready to embrace fall. Another sign that it’s fall? Queen’s Homecoming (the first in so many years) is this weekend! I’ll be heading down with my boyfriend and a bunch of our friends to get our tricolour on & sing the Oil Thigh to our hearts’ content. To encourage those heading down to make sure the newly-reinstated Homecoming celebrations aren’t our last (again), Queen’s TV has put out a cheeky little video. Take a look & smile.

Fall is also one of the best times to shop. Not only are F/W collections amazing, the basics are so easily dressed up and so versatile. Here are my must-haves to get you through the season. They go perfectly with a Pumpkin Spice Latte or a cup of David’s Tea Mom’s Apple Pie, in case you’re wondering.

Fall Fashion Essentials

The Silk Shirt: Joe Fresh Silk Shirt, $49

This is the ultimate work-to-play piece. As versatile as it comfortable, this amazingly-priced silk shirt is one item I buy every season and gush over constantly. The relaxed fit makes it perfect for wearing over skinny jeans or leggings, but it also looks great tucked into a high-waisted skirt.

The Perfect JeansGap 1969 Legging Jeans $79.95

Finding the perfect jeans is an emotional process. After years of spending way too much money on designer duds (Hello, $300 jeans from Holts/Aritzia/etc that don’t last very long at all), I discovered these Gap legging jeans and haven’t looked back since. They’re not your typical skintight legging jean – these feel like denim with the perfect amount of stretch. They’re even comfortable enough to wear while traveling! [beware the bleed – these will rub off on your chair/purse/hands for awhile]

The Cozy Scarf: Indigo Natural Leopard Print Scarf, $39.50

For days that start off cool, warm up, then drop again, a cozy scarf is exactly what you’ll want to have in your bag. This leopard print, light wool scarf from Indigo is large enough to cozy up in at work when the AC is still on (WHY?!) and complements just about any outfit (leopard is a neutral!). This has been my go-to since July – it’s soft, cozy and perfect for snuggling up in.

The Comfy Cardi: Tory Burch Simone Cardigan, $250

For the past few years, I’ve been collecting these Simone cardigans and wearing them religiously from October to April every year. Made of the coziest, lightweight merino wool blend, this hip-length, slightly-fitted cardigan is the ultimate luxe layering piece. The standout gold Tory Burch buttons add that little something extra extra.

The Statement Necklace: Kate Spade steal the spotlight necklace, $198

Whether you’re wearing a silk shirt, a cozy sweater or a dress, a statement necklace is the perfect way to dress up your outfit. This Kate Spade piece I’ve been lusting over will take you straight into the holiday season with its clusters of stones. Don’t be afraid to wear this to work – this is the perfect season to add a little sparkle to your basics.

The Tall Boot: Blondo Vivianne Boot, $250

This boot has become my go-to. Not only is it waterproof and leather – it also comes in wide widths. Finding boots has always been such a struggle for me as I’ve got very muscular calves. These will take you straight through the winter and will work with skinny jeans, leggings or dresses. Pick the boots up online or at Walking on a Cloud (where I buy mine).
