In the craziness that has been combining our recent engagement with the holiday season, I feel like I haven’t had time to see any of my favourite people. When Fresita Canada invited me and three of my girlfriends to have a spa night with lots of sparkling Chilean wine, I was into it in a huge way. An even bigger bonus? Green Beauty is just south of Yonge & Lawrence a.k.a. way closer to my neighbourhood than most events I get to attend!
When we arrived at Green Beauty after chowing down on some Priests nearby (what…it was too close to avoid), we were met with this:
You sure know the way to a girl’s heart, Fresita! Butter Avenue is a shop just south of Green Beauty on Yonge and it has some of the most delicious macarons I’ve had in the city. One of my BFFs lives just around the corner and we actually headed there after one of our many macaron fails to console ourselves with sleeve upon sleeve of their confections. On offer that night? Gingerbread, Peppermint, Salted Caramel and more. Hello!
This wasn’t my first encounter with Fresita – earlier last week, they sent a bottle of the bubbly strawberry-infused wine to my office.
We’ve been loving the light, crisp and not-too-sweet flavour. I can’t wait to sip it by the pool all summer and serve it up and the many girly occasions that are sure to pop up in the time leading up to the wedding. Fresita is a great alternative to pricier pink-hued bubbles and is a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Moscatel and freshly-picked Patagonian strawberries. All you really need to know is that it tastes wonderful and is only 8% alcohol – perfect for sipping and mixing into a sangria!
The Green Beauty space is incredibly welcoming and relaxed and owner Donna Bishop was on hand to walk us through all of their organic and natural beauty offerings. Green Beauty carries brands like Kaia, Consonant Beauty and Tata Harper among others – all brands I already love or have been meaning to try.
I brought three lovely ladies along with me to enjoy the evening of pampering: Meg, Shannon & Jaime. Meg and I work together at Proximity and when I found out she had never ever had a manicure I knew she would have to come with. She’s also pretty awesome. Shannon and I have been meaning to have a little date for so long, so she was another perfect addition to our crew. Finally, Jaime – one of my oldest friends – also lives in the neighbourhood and I knew she’d love to check out a spa so close to home. I’m so happy these are the girls I brought along – we had so much fun and everyone left with a new friend.
On tap for the evening were makeup applications and manicures. I was first up in the chair of Maya Goldenberg, a freelance eco-beauty professional. Since wedding beauty has been on my brain, I asked her to show me her idea of bridal beauty. She ended up showing me two different eye looks – a smoky and a cat eye. I’m leaning towards the cat eye for my big day – it’s subtle and a little bit retro. You can see the two looks in the photo below – smoky on the left & cat eye on the right. Let me know which you like better!
Our manicures were done with 5-free Cheeky Monkey polish. Not only are these polishes safer than most since they’re free of the 5 big chemicals and toxin-free, but they also have hilarious names like Booty Call, Man Eater and Hangover. Meg’s first mani was a success!
We had a great night and all ended up taking home more than a few natural beauty goodies with us. I picked up the Kacia bamboo face wipes and an amazing lipstick called Wild Child AND I got to take home my shoutout-to-my-former-life- nail polish from Cheeky Monkey called Man Eater.
We also went home with two delicious holiday macarons from Butter Avenue in a beautiful box. Not to spill the beans, but these little guys will be playing a role in my wedding. Can you guess how I’ll use them?
* Disclosure: I was provided with complimentary Fresita products and compensation to attend this event. A blog post was not required for compensation, though – I just had so much fun that I had to share it with you!
