Even tougher than the decision about which phone to get (or when to upgrade) is how you’ll dress your phone up. Sure, some decide to let their phone go au naturel, but for the majority finding the perfect phone case is a struggle. I first heard about GelaSkins when I came back to Toronto from university – I met someone on their team at a Social Media Week event at the Madison. A Toronto-based start-up focused on great design, GelaSkins facilitates the creation of custom and independent artist-designed protective gear for your tech devices. Yes – you can custom design your own laptop skin, smartphone case and even iPad cover. It was one of those things that I always meant to try but kept putting off. When the team at GelaSkins asked if I would check the service out, it was exactly the kick in the butt I needed.
The whole process took me about 20 minutes and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the results. I was gifted with a $50 credit – enough to get either a laptop skin or phone hardcase and cover shipping – but the process was so simple that I ended up kicking in an extra couple of bucks and getting both a laptop skin for my MacBook Pro unibody and iPhone 5s.
While Casie suggested a photo of Mike & I, I decided to use my favourite photo of Chloe from the summer instead. More awww-inducing than vomit-inducing 😉 Need some inspiration for your very own GelaSkin? Consider using your Instagram photos!
I ordered my products late Sunday afternoon and was surprised when my doorbell rang after dinner on Tuesday night – just over 48 hours later – with this gem. I uploaded a high-res photo taken with my DSLR (make sure to use a high-res photo!) and the result was a practically lifelike GelaSkin of Chloe for my laptop. She was none too impressed, but my whole family gathered around to admire our little munchkin`s likeness on the skin. It applied beautifully – I got the one with the Apple cutout – with zero bubbles.
Cool, right? The 13″ MacBook unibody skin with apple cutout cost me $30. The iPhone 5s hardcase I designed using one of my favourite gold polkadot prints (naturally) cost me an additional $35. Shipping was about $12. I’ve been getting so many compliments on both products. The skin is incredibly eye-catching and oh-so-cute while the iPhone case is one of the best I’ve ever had. The hardcase is so smooth and comfortable to hold. I love that it’s also a wrap-around design – the polkadots continue over to the front of the case (no boring rim!). GelaSkins will also provide you with a matching iPhone lock screen/background image for a truly seamless design.
The team at GelaSkins has offered up a $50 credit to one lucky LEOPARD is a NEUTRAL reader to use towards their very own custom (or independent artist-designed) item. That’s enough to get you your very own skin or hardcase, including shipping. All you have to do is enter through the Rafflecopter below. The contest will close at midnight next Thursday. Good luck!
[disclaim]I was provided with a $50 GelaSkins credit to use towards the products in this post. I ended up kicking in an additional $30 so I could get an additional product. As always, I’m sharing this because I love it and think you will too![/disclaim]
