If you haven’t been listening to the Gilmore Girls theme on repeat for the past few weeks, you should probably leave now. This post isn’t for you.
To the rest of you – WHO IS EXCITED FOR FRIDAY!? I, for one, cannot wait. I mainlined Gilmore Girls in an extended binge last winter and became so re-invested in Rory and Lorelai’s lives that I can’t wait to catch up with them again this Friday. I feel like four episodes is going to be a tease, but hey – I’ll take what I can get. Now, click on that link to the theme song and let’s get reading.
Although I know we all can’t wait to see who Rory ends up with (someone? Anyone? #TeamLogan), at the core of it, Gilmore Girls is a show about a tumultuous, true-to-life, entertaining mother-daughter relationship. Whether you and your mom are more like Lorelai and Rory or Lane & Mrs. Kim, Gilmore Girls: A Year in Review is the perfect option for a date night with Mom. Netflix asked me to share a bit of inspiration for your own date night with mom, so slip into your jammies and let’s get started.
First thing’s first: you’re going to need some snacks. Rory and Lorelai are all about the Red Vines, popcorn, Pop Tarts and takeout and I can’t say I disagree! My mom and I are also partial red liquorice (helloooo, Twizzlers!) and takeout of the pizza variety. Like Lorelai and Rory, we’re both rarely seen without a cup of coffee, so make sure to perk up a fresh batch.
Feel free to invite your pets along. Charlie is our stand-in for Paul Anka. For the full experience, make sure to shut down your phones and keep the bathroom breaks to a minimum (tough for me, let me tell you, on both accounts!).
