#ManicureMonday: naked nail art™

The age old question: is nail art office-appropriate?

For the lucky ones (like me!) who work in agencies and creative spaces, the answer is always yes. However, if you’re in a more conservative environment and wish you could join the nail art craze, I’ve got the perfect solution. Naked nail art (™).

Not only is this a subtle way to add a little pizazz to your manicure, but it’s also super-subtle, fun and easy. All you need is a skintone or beige-y polish, a bright (or coloured neutral) and a toothpick.

Naked Nail Art™ How-To:

  1. Swipe nail polish remover over your nails and paint on a base coat.
  2. Layer on your skintone or beige polish until it is opaque (I used two coats of Deboarah Lippmann’s Fashion). Let it dry.
  3. Take your bright/coloured neutral polish and let a few drops puddle onto a sheet of paper. (I used China Glaze’s For Audrey). Push the pointed end of your toothpick against a hard surface to make it blunt.
  4. Dip the blunt end of the toothpick into the puddle of polish and stamp the dots onto your nail. I did a vertical row of dots in different positions on each nail, but you could also try it horizontally along the tips or base.
  5. Let the dots rest for a minute or two and brush on a quick-drying, high-shine topcoat (I used Deborah Lippmann’s Addicted to Speed).

The nude base keeps things natural and subtle while the polka dots add some sass. This is one of my favourite nail art looks to date and I know it’s one idea I’ll be repeating again and again.

What colour will your polka dots be?

My favourite nude is Essie – Jazz 🙂

Great choice! It takes a bit of searching, but once you find the perfect nude it’s life-changing 🙂

  • why is it trademarked?

    • cute look, btw!

    • Oh, just being silly 🙂 I’ve never seen it referred to a naked nail art so I was staking my claim to it. Glad you like the look!

      • smart! I like essie’s Sand Tropez for this look as well.

That looks great! I don’t work in a super conservative office but it’s not
creative either. I think I’m just too lazy for nail art LOL!

    • Haha, love it! This is quite possibly the laziest nail art *ever*. It takes about a minute longer than a regular manicure.
