New Year’s Eve Glow Guide

There’s nothing quite like the anticipation of a new year. Along with reflecting on the year past and making resolutions to move forward, there’s also just a feeling of newness and excitement that comes along with the stroke of midnight.

Whether you’re braving the crowds downtown, hanging out with friends or just having a low-key evening at home, New Year’s Eve is a great excuse to get a little glitzy. Before you get scared – glitzy doesn’t have to mean glittering like a disco ball. Here are the 7 products I’ll be using tonight to get my glow on, ranging from subtle to extreme. Bonus: only one of these items is something I purchased exclusively for New Year’s Eve.

New Year’s Eve Glow Guide

Shimmer can go horribly wrong – we’re all been there. These products give you the glow you’ve been looking for on your skin & hair without making you the disco ball’s #1 competition (or a greasy mess). Use them tonight to dial things up then keep the glow going all year long by incorporating them into your regular routine.

Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Dry Styling Oil
I’ve raved about this product before & I’ll do it again: give your hair a light spritz of this dry styling oil to make it shine without packing on the grease. After you set your style with (strong hold) hair spray, a little spritz of this will keep you glowing all night long – and tame any fly-aways.

Moroccanoil Shimmering Body Oil (~$45 at salons)
This oil will boost your radiance in a big way. Argan and sesame oils are combined with fine particles of mica to moisturize and glam-ify your skin in seconds. This oil sinks in quickly and gives a pearlescent glow. My only wish? That it smelled more like the Moroccanoil scent I’ve come to expect.

Soap & Glory Glow Lotion ($18 at Murale & Shoppers Drug Mart)
This “gorgeous glimmer lotion for the body” is becoming increasingly difficult to find and I’m worried for its safety so if you find it, stockpile it. A staple in my beauty wardrobe for years now, this lotion is like lingerie for your skin – it blurs imperfections, highlights the wonderful and makes you stand out in a great way. Have I mentioned it imparts the sexiest scent ever? I use this anytime I want to amp up my glow or feel a little sultrier.

Deborah Lippmann polish in Cleopatra in New York ($20)
When I went in search of the perfect New Year’s Eve polish, I knew it would be Deborah Lippmann – she is the queen of glitter, after all! Cleopatra In New York is such a wicked cool formula. A sheer black jelly with hexagon and regular gold glitter interspersed, it applies like a dream and is opaque in two coats.

Benefit Girl Meets Pearl ($30)
This pearly pink highlighting cream is a staple in my beauty arsenal for good reason – the shimmer is subtle but impactful. Use it to highlight your cheekbones and cupid’s bow for a come-hither look that doesn’t scream “I bathed in shiny things”.

Benefit Posietint ($30)
The best way to glow it to let your natural skin texture show through, which is why I love all of Benefit’s lip & cheek stains. If you can’t get your hands on Lollitint, the brand’s new candy orchid-coloured tint, Posietint is a good second-best option. The formula is more of a gel than the brand’s iconic Benetint, meaning you can brush it on with less worry of staining before you’re done blending. Layer it on your lips and cheeks for a believable tint that will last all night long.

Lise Watier Eye Glitter Liner in Silver Stars ($19)
I bought this last year in an attempt to duplicate Pixiwoo’s Leona Lewis Glitter eye makeup tutorial and it worked like a charm. Use this all over your lids (tutorial here) then line with black liquid for a seriously glittery and festive look.

Happy New Year’s Eve! I hope you have a fabulous night 🙂
