Obsession: Deborah Lippmann, Boom Boom Pow

Have you seen those Frank’s Red Hot commercials lately? You know, the ones that end with the grandma saying “I put that sh*t on everything!”? That’s my situation right now with Deborah Lippmann’s standout gold sparkle polish, Boom Boom Pow.

Our love affair started just before the holidays when I picked up the polish at Murale to add a little glitz to my holiday glam. Since then, I’ve been experimenting with different ways to wear the polish and have not, for one second, fallen out of love with it. Trust me – that’s for the best since the polish cost around $26 CDN.

Over OPI Done out in Deco

Whether you’re looking to add a little sparkle to your everyday look or picking up a gift for a fellow polish-obsessed friend, I can’t recommend Deborah Lippmann’s Boom Boom Pow enough. Discs and specks of gold glitter are suspended in a gleaming, sheer base in this standout polish. Yes, it contains 24k gold dust – this is truly a luxe polish!

How to wear it:

  • On its own – you’ll need numerous coats for opacity, but it will be worth the effort.
Best for: a special night out. This can be a little tough to pull off for daytime wear, especially in a conservative office environment!
  • As an accent – accent nails are all the rage. Paint your ring finger with this polish for a hint of glam.
    Best for:
  • Over your favourite polish – this is how I wear it most often. Apply over two coats of your favourite polish for a look that’s whimsical (pastels and brights) or glam (dark or red).
Best for: everyday wear. One coat will cover your nail with the sheer gleaming base and add just enough of the larger sparkles to catch your eye. Super shiny & super fun.
RGB Pink + Boom Boom Pow

Currently, my favourite combo is the one shown above – RGB Pink + Boom Boom Pow. It’s spring-perfect and also makes me think of Katniss in the Hunger Games. Is $26 a bit more than you’re willing to splurge for a polish? Try SEPHORA by OPI’s Only Gold For Me (~$10). You won’t get the same subtle sheen, but the look will be similar.
