Pucker up & blush: Valentine’s Day Beauty

From the flush of your cheeks when you spot that special someone watching you across the room to darkened swell of your lips after a perfect good night kiss, pink is the colour of all things romance. In this month of love, there’s no better way to pay homage to cupid than with blushingly pink beauty looks. Unapologetic amounts of pink are about to happen, in case you were wondering.

Valentine's Day Beauty picks

Even if you’re a Valentine’s Day hater, it’s hard to ignore that little tug in your subconscious towards all shades on the rosy spectrum.

From bold to barely-there, these lip colours top my list of must-trys this month. Looking for a matte, stays-on-forever shade? Revlon’s ColorBurst Matte Balm is a comfortable pick. For  lipstick that feels like gloss, try YSL Rouge Volupte Shine (splurge) or Maybelline’s Color Elixir Lip Colour (save). The former will stain your lips when applied in thin layers (blot in between swipes!) while the latter is comfortable, saturated and slick.

For a perfect match that rivals any silver screen romance, pair Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick with the matching Lip Gloss. The lipstick can be worn alone and blotted to a matted, just-kissed finish with serious staying power, but layering on the gloss will add a bit of innocence to your pre-dinner look.

Ready to blush like Leonardo DiCaprio just winked at you? Create a natural, luminous flush with a swirl, dab or glide. Benefit’s Lollitint stains your cheeks and lips a pretty candy orchid pink while Maybelline’s Face Studio Master Glaze adds a luminous cream-to-powder flush that’s as natural as it is gorgeous. In Pink Fever, Master Glaze will give you that just-had-a-romp glow you can’t help but covet this time of the year.

Get the look: Valentine’s Day Romance

This look is equal parts sultry and pretty. It’s an amped-up version of a 5-minute face that looks effortless but still put together. Whether you decide to wear it for a date, brunch with the girls or even just to the office, it’s a soft romantic look that’s anything but twee. Pair with softly curled hair or even a messy fishtail braid.

Start with freshly moisturized skin and lips – give Maybelline BabyLips Dr. Rescue a try. Prime your lids – try Stila Prime Pot – and brush on a neutral shade. In your crease, blend a light grey shadow, defining along the outer corners as well (I used Lise Watier Eyeshadow Quartet in Les Mats). Curl your lashes then trace along the lashline with a waterproof liquid liner like Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner, flicking up slightly at the corners for a sultry cat-eye.

Clean up any fallout under your eyes, then buff a buildable foundation like MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Invisible Cover Foundation onto your skin. Swipe on concealer, concentrating on any dark circles and redness. Using a matte bronzer (I use Benefit Hoola), contour along your hairline and in the hollows of your cheeks. On the apples of your cheeks and in a checkmark motion along your cheekbones, glide on Maybelline Face Studio Master Glaze in Pink Fever and blend with your fingers.

Wipe off any excess balm with a tissue then apply Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fuchsia Shock following your natural lipline. Blot with a tissue and apply a second layer for extra staying power. Add mascara and your look is date-ready.

Others (yes, the most expensive ones) were purchased by me because I can’t resist pretty beauty goodies. As always, I’m sharing them because I love them and think you will, too![/disclaim]
