Recaps & Resolutions: 2014/15

The recap & resolutions post is always one of my favourites of the year. I love taking a look back at the year past and seeing how much I’ve grown, how many things have changed and all the crazy things I’ve managed to get myself into. Check out 2011/12, 2012/13 & 2013/14 for more exciting recap-y goodness. This year has been a crazy one so buckle up.

Big changes happened on the work front in 2014. As a social media professional in Toronto, let’s just say I have a lot of recruiters getting in touch about new positions. It’s just the nature of the business! During my two years at Proximity, I couldn’t have had a better time, but there was finally an opportunity that piqued my interest…and it was just across the street.

In May, I left a job and team I absolutely loved for new pastures at Tribal Worldwide – Toronto. I was lucky enough to have a few familiar faces at the new gig, including this guy ^^^.

I’ve already gotten to work on some amazing campaigns and projects, including running a yearly influencer program for General Mills and smaller campaign-based programs for CIL Paints, Walmart, McDonald’s and more. I even got to put some of my male blogger friends’ faces on boxer shorts for the Junkface campaign. One of the coolest things I’ve gotten to work on has been the launch of Peanut Butter Cheerios’ #HowToDad  – seeing this spot and the campaign message spread like wildfire has been amazing!

Because I’m apparently a glutton for punishment, I also do a little bit of social media freelance work where time permits. This year, I helped to launch two new Canadian businesses in the social space – Me & T Studio (a beauty studio in Midtown Toronto) and CEDAR Juices, a juice cleanse company that has taken the retail market by storm.

Blog & Social

I say this every year, but blogging allows me to experience some of the most amazing things. A highlight of this year was definitely my World Mastercard Fashion Week experience as a VIP with Redken. Along with getting my hair done each night by Redken stylists, I also had a backstage run-in with my favourite designer, Kimberley Newport-Mimran of Pink Tartan and got to sit front row at Rachel Sin with the ladies from L’Oreal Canada!

In 2014, I also attended the opening of Kleinfeld Canada, test-drove Luxe Shopping Experiences as I hunted for the perfect wedding dress and the premiere of Netflix’s Orange is The New Black Season 2!

I was also so honoured to be on the cover of Fash Weekly with other Toronto-based, fashion-loving bloggers and grace Kerastase Canada’s website to promote their AMAZING smoothing hair treatment, Kerastase Discipline.

The nerd in me always likes to see which posts resonated the most with everyone in the last year. Looks like you all love bridal content + pretty beauty products! My most-read posts of 2014 were:

Benefit Tinted Lip Hydrators
Checking out Benefit’s Lip Tint Hydrators . One of my favourite beauty line extensions of 2014!
Dior Addict Fluid Stick Applicator
Learning about Dior’s beauty innovation, the Dior Addict Fluid Stick. I’m still so obsessed with this formula and it looks like you are, too!
NARS Audacious lip colour- Annabella Swatch Review
Yes, more lip products. NARS Audacious Lipsticks caused quite a stir in the beauty world in 2014 and on this blog as well. I can’t wait to get my hands on Audrey – it seems to be perpetually out of stock!
Kleinfeld Canada launch party- Danielle Caprese blush tulle ball gown
I had my dress appointment at Kleinfeld Canada and shared my dress shopping experience. Even though I didn’t find THE dress that day, everyone got to follow along and read about how lovely my consultant was.
Bow napkins - chic girly bridesmaid brunch inspiration
In March, I hosted a special, Pinterest-y, Kate Spade-inspired brunch to ask my bridesmaids to be a part of our wedding! I’m not sure if it was the decor or the baked Brie, but this post was one of the year’s most popular.

I also got re-grammed by Martha Stewart Weddings. Life made.

For anyone who reads this blog, what consumed 2014 shouldn’t come as a surprise: wedding, wedding, wedding! If anyone’s keeping track, no I do not recommend an engagement over 1 year. There is way too much time to put off items, worry about other things and generally get stressed out. 1 year people. Stick to a year.

Ruth Chris Steakhouse New Years Eve Toronto

We kicked off 2014 by freezing out butts off at the Winter Classic and capped it off by eating reams of food at Ruth Chris Steakhouse downtown and ringing in midnight with good friends at a hotel party.

I got up to some pretty fun things with amazing people in 2014, including meeting Elisha Cuthbert and Hilary Clinton with my MOH Amanda, celebrating my champagne birthday with the best friends ever, eating a bug at the ROM FNL on Halloween with my vampire and baking up deliciousness.

Suffice to say it was a pretty awesome year! Yes – it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows…there were definitely a lot of situations this year that stressed me out and caused me grief. I do think I came through the turmoil and learned a lot, though. You can’t ask for much more than that!

2015 Resolutions

I feel like I’ve been rambling on forever, so I’ll keep this short & sweet.

Purge – Knick knacks, closet, Facebook friends, etc. I love a good purge and I’ve been checking off some #TinyResolutions by trimming the fat on my Facebook list to remove anyone I don’t actually speak to in person. Especially as a blogger, people seem to feel a bit entitled to have you on Facebook when they don’t actually *know* you. Snip snip! I’m also paring down my personal belongings as Mike and I look for a home. Yes, I like to hoard.

Find My Off Switch – as my lovely fiance is quick to tell me, I’m never “off”. After a particularly brutal bout of bridal anxiety, he hauled me off to Dave & Busters for an evening where he knew I’d be more concerned about killing zombies and getting thousands of tickets than stressing over minutia. It worked, but it also highlighted that I’m a bit of a workaholic. If I’m not at the office, I’m in my home office or tethered to my phone. If it’s not my daytime clients, it’s my blog or the wedding or freelance. In 2015, I resolve to find my off switch….because there’s a difference between being ambitious and driving yourself crazy.

Get married already! – After well over a year of being engaged, we’re less than 5 months out. It’s time. I can’t wait to walk down the aisle and finally marry the guy I’ve been saying I would marry for over 4 years now. I also look forward to having something other than wedding on the brain (and I’m sure my coworkers and friends are looking forward to the end of the madness as well. I swear I have other interests, guys.).

Here’s to 2015! I can’t wait to share it with you. Let me know your resolutions below!
