Summer is here, summer is here! As a summer baby, I can’t help but get excited for my favourite season of the year – especially because it gives me extra license to wear my brightest brights. Hands, toes, lips, clothes…I can’t get enough of the season’s happiest, punchiest colours.
When the Revlon Limited Edition Summer 2013 Haute Tropics Collection arrived at my office, it was met with ooh and aahs from my coworkers. The shades are 8 beautiful jewels that are designed to punch up your pedi but still be gorgeously wearable on your hands. Polish that transports you to the tropics in 10 minutes? Yes please! I received four shades for review – (L-R) Coast is Clear, Lagoon Afternoon, Belize, Please!, Cabana Queen.
Coast is Clear is the kind of ocean-in-the-Bahamas turquoise I always gravitate to. It has a slight shimmer and achieves opacity in 2-3 coats. It reminds me a bit of Essie’s Turquoise and Caicos, but the shimmer and brighter, closer-to-Tiffany-blue shade makes it unique (and my favourite). BONUS – it also matches my Banana Republic x Milly bib necklace!
Lagoon Afternoon is the shade I was most surprised to fall in love with. I could have applied a single coat to achieve the deep, stunning, wearable blue, although I applied two for good measure/out of habit. It does stain (as many darker blue polishes do) but it’s completely worth the hassle. I love how it looked with the gold leaf from my Essence nail art design kit!
Belize, Please! will easily become a staple in my nail wardrobe. A true pink, it has a hint of purple-y shimmer that gives a high-gloss, multi-dimensional look. It’s the quintessential pink polish and just might convince me to have a matching mani/pedi – it’s that fun. This is the pink little girls’ dreams are made of.
Cabana Queen is a shimmery off-white/silver/grey shade. I’m not quite sure how to describe other than to say it’s lovely. It was the shade I was most skeptical of, but I can see myself wearing it pretty often – it’s a bit unusual and will look amazing with a bit of a summer glow. More than anything – and as the name suggests – it has that effortless rich-girl-on-vacation feel. It makes for a great accent shade for nail art, too.
Isn’t Cabana Queen lovely on top of Belize, Please!? This little dotted accent nail is one of my most favourite – and easiest – ways to sport nail art.
The Revlon Haute Tropics 2013 Summer collection is limited-edition and will only be in stores for the next few weeks. I recommend going to snap them up – they’re versatile with amazing colour pay-off and the formula can last up to 7 days without chips.
