You have 6 weeks to fill up your piggy bank. Roots is turning 40 this year and they’ve collaborated with the Canadian Smythe, a Kate Middleton favourite. What makes this doubly Canadian collaboration even better is the perfect match between the brands’ fortes – Smythe is best known for its outerwear and blazers while Roots is Canada’s go-to destination for leather.
When Smythe & Roots make a baby, it looks like this:

When Marcus Kan and I attended the Roots Fall ’13 preview a few weeks ago, we both stopped dead in our tracks when we came across this beauty. Due to hit stores in early September (subject to change), this butter-soft moto jacket with gold accents stole our hearts upon first glance. Marcus and I always manage to run into each other at the Roots previews and I may or may not abuse his presence by asking him to model the wares. After all, I’m not sample size…but he sure is 😉 This, obviously, resulted in Septembre Anderson and I coining the #MarcusTheIntern hashtag. Here’s Marcus the Intern wearing the latest (ladies) offering from Roots x Smythe. If you’re as foxy as Marcus, you can make it unisex.
Excuse the blur – that was #MarcusTheIntern trying to escape. The retail for this jacket is $990 CAD (Smythe blazers are ~$550 and leather is expensive). Remember – leather’s an investment and a buying a piece you love and will wear forever is actually a bargain 😉
