Should I DIY: Mani/Pedis

Blame it on Pinterest or the bevy of at-home products available, but women seem to be DIY-ing more and more. I hate to break it to you, but some things are just not meant for DIY. If you’ve ever wondered if you should visit a pro or just do it yourself, read on.

Should I DIY: Mani/Pedi edition

With at-home mani/pedis, the answer is always yes. DIY might take a little practice, but mani/pedis are one of the easiest beauty services to do yourself. There’s also something so incredibly gratifying about painting your own nails or saying sayonara to dry skin and callouses. There’s nothing I can do to help you with your paint job (practice, practice, practice!) but here are five products that will make all the difference:

DIY Mani Pedi Essentials

Deborah Lippmann Base Coat + Seche Vite topcoat

  • The gold star of polish essentials, Deborah Lippmann Base Coat + Seche Vite topcoat are about as good as it gets. They’ll keep your manicure chip-free and fresh longer than usual.
Find Deborah Lippmann at Murale, Holt Renfrew and Donato salon locations; Seche Vite can be found at your local Trade Secrets or Beauty Supply Outlet

Emjoi MICRO Pedi

  • This gadget is both fun and effective. Emjoi MICRO Pedi uses micro mineral rollers to gently buff away dry skin and callouses on your feet. My boyfriend jokes that I have the feet of an 80-year-old woman (isn’t he a sweetheart? ;)) and practically jumps for joy when I pull this little guy out. Smooth heels can be yours in 15 minutes or less. Use outside of the shower, please! Have I mentioned it’s really fun to use? Use it on yourself, use it on a friend, watch the dead skin fly off your feet (sexy, I know).
It retails for about $50 and you can find it at Shoppers Drug Mart locations.

Dior Crème Abricot Fortifying Cream For Nails

  • This is what I like to call an instant manicure in a jar. Massage it into your nails nightly and you’ll wake up with smooth cuticles. During a DIY manicure, massage it in before you file your nails and push back your cuticles before swiping nails with nail polish remover to get rid of any residue. Magic!
Buy it for about $30 wherever Dior products are sold.

  • This super-emollient, sugar-based scrub is infused with essential oils that leave your skin silky and smooth. Use it after filing or cutting your nails and in the shower on your whole body (feet included) to keep skin scale-free. This is by far the best scrub I’ve ever used and the scents are absolutely delectable.
Get your LOVEFRESH on WAXON Wax Bar locations or online.

**Disclosure: I was provided with the EMOJI MicroPedi for editorial consideration + review. As always, I share products because I love them and think you will too! **
