January was a month of rediscovering things I’d pushed to the back of my beauty closet (thanks, No-Buy January!) and exploring exciting new releases. The eight products shared below were ones I had on constant rotation throughout the month, many used daily. They’re that good. Ready to get your shop on? I’ve been reaching for this palette on a near-daily basis, whether I’m looking for a quick workday look or a more intense weekend eye. NYX’s latest shadow launch is bouncy and silky-to-the-touch, with each palette featuring a range of matte and shimmer finishes. I find these last incredibly well throughout the day and give a really unique sheen to the eye. They almost look wet once applied (with your fingers!), a look I’m really into right now. Whether you’re a makeup beginner or expert, you’ll love how seamlessly these shadows blend and how incredibly wearable each shade is. You can spot my favourites pretty clearly above! Buy it now.
Ah, Glossier Cloud Paint. I hated on this product pretty vocally when I first purchased it over the summer since the packaging is a little finicky and tends to deposit an explosion of product. But I found myself reaching for it in the early weeks of 2018 and found myself addicted to the sinks-right-in formula. A pillowy gel-cream, it’s best used dotted along the cheeks and then blended out with fingers. While I initially swore off using it ever again, I’m now trying to justify the other three shades. Buy it now.
This French beauty cult classic arrived in Canada at Shoppers Drug Mart (#client) late last year and became my saviour during a particularly cold week when I couldn’t seem to remember my mittens or lip balm. You can use this 5-in-one product pretty much anywhere on your body and it can act as a moisturizer, makeup base, cleanser, moisturizing mask or even aftershave. I can’t promise that I’ve tried it all these ways, but I can tell you that it saved my skin and sunk right in. Buy it now.
Since the Becca Champagne Pop incident of 2016 (see: sweaty disco ball), I’ve been a bit more moderate in my highlighter usage. That’s not to say that I’m using any less of it – I’m just looking for something a little different from my product. Of all the highlighters I’ve tried, I keep coming back to the one I purchased in August – Nudestix Nudies All Over Face Colour in Illumi-Naughty. This little stick of wonder is really something else. With a quick dab, you can get a wet-look highlight that imparts a dewy, pearlescent sheen. It catches the light without looking over the top and is perfect for a night out or daytime use – even if you don’t work in beauty like I do! Buy it now.
It’s completely OK to buy this collab for the millennial pink packaging alone ( I would), but make sure you don’t sleep on this perfect shade of red! Carefully layered and blotted, Khair has amazing longevity and is the perfect Lady Boss Red. I felt fierce the day I wore this to the office and it gave me that beauty editor chic I aspire to. I do feel like this needs a liner, though, so if you have this shade and have found the perfect liner please let me know below!
Much as I love some good nail art, it’s been tough to find the time to see my favourite artist (go see Elyse at Holdengrace High Park!). My favourite compromise for a salon gel manicure is Essie Gel Couture Nail Colour, an at-home 2-step system that removes with regular polish remover. In fact, I love it so much that it’s the only polish I stock at home. I can go more than a week chip-free with this polish, a boon for someone who spends all day on a keyboard. If you’ve all but written off at-home manicures, give this polish a try and I promise you’ll change your mind. Buy it now.
My love affair with Fix+ was renewed in January, mostly thanks to the set of the scented formulas I picked up around Christmas. This spritz is perfect for adding a little extra moisture to your skin or “melting” in your makeup (especially powders) to make it all look seamless. I find myself reaching for it more and more throughout the winter since it adds that perfect dewy sheen whether your skin is bare or in a full-face of makeup. Even better: as of January 2018, the Rose, Lavender & Coconut scents are permanent! Buy it now.
I’ve saved the best for last. I’ve been trying to track down this Rifle Paper Co. collab since Christmastime and was only successful early in January. I audibly squealed. I’m a huge Rifle Paper Co. fangirl and can’t get enough of Anna Bond’s blooms and tend to collect her designs with abandon. I’m especially thrilled that she’s collaborated to design packaging on one of my favourite hand lotion formulations from L’Occitane. The lotion with a 20% shea butter concentration is nourishing and non-greasy. If you pick up the trio, you’ll experience both the original Shea Butter scent, warm Vanilla Bouquet and Wonderful Rose (pictured above). It comes in both purse-sized and large formats and yes, I’ve picked up both. Buy the set or buy them individually .
I hope you love January’s favourites as much as I do! Let me know which you’re picking up in the comments below xo.
