Leather Love: Roots S/S13 collection

Even though the brief reprieve in winter weather that sent me straight to the shoe store for summer sandals has ended, I’ve still got spring on my mind. I’ve already started to add spring brights to my wardrobe and plan my purchases for the season. After attending the Roots Spring/Summer 2013 preview a few weeks ago, I’m feeling more than a little excited for S/S collections.

The Roots Spring/Summer 2013 collection mixed bright, luxe leathers with functionality and class, presenting a covetable collection anyone would clamour to have in their closet. Some of it is already in stores, so keep your eyes peeled!

The thing that caught my eye first? This gorgeous Selina Bag Quilted Box ($328). If you’re not quite ready to purchase that other black quilted bag, this one is sure to tide you over…and then some. Whether you wear it on your arm, cross-body or a shoulder bag, this tote will hold all your essentials + go with absolutely everything.

This dress immediately caught my eye. I’ve never owned a leather dress, but this one combines two of spring’s biggest trends: perforated leather and classic, clean shapes. This will easily go from work to play with the addition of a cute cardi or scarf and different types of jewelry. Mark my words, this will end up in my closet. Plan for it to retail for about $500, like this similar oxblood leather dress from the winter collection.

This New City Briefcase in Greystone Tribe leather ($368) might be for the guys, but it’s the kind of item you buy “for” your boyfriend/brother/dad but steal for yourself every once in awhile. Made of the most supple leather I’ve ever felt on a men’s item, this briefcase is functional and beautiful.

Finally, I was luck enough to be gifted with a bright turquoise blue Raw Edie crossbody bag made of Italian Raw leather ($128). The photo I took at the launch didn’t turn out, but luckily it’s now for sale on the Roots website. It looks a little something like this:

Aside from the stunning colour and raw feel of the leather, I love that this crossbody bag has straps that are adjustable enough to wear the bag comfortably. I can’t wait to wear this bag to amusement parks and summer concerts – I’ve never been able to find a crossbody bag I love so I’m incredibly happy to have this in my collection. This bag is part of the Tutti Frutti collection which is, as you can imagine, chock full of beautiful brights for summer.

Thanks to Empire PR and Laura for the fantastic evening!
