Sometimes, really cool things happen on Twitter. A few weeks ago, I entered a contest posted by @BlackBerry to attend the launch party for their brand new tablet, the PlayBook. Little did I know I’d also be winning one of the coveted tablets!

Each winner was able to bring along three friends, so I rounded up fellow PR girl Sharon Gill, my former roommate Bridget Jeanes and her tech-obsessed boyfriend Jeff Stewart and headed down to Parts & Labour.
The first thing I noticed was that the girls doing guestlist were doing so ON PlayBooks. They were quickly able to search through the pre-installed Excel on the go app and find our names. Seeing them on the PlayBooks made me really excited to “meet” the new device.

After having our photos taken at the BlackBerry media wall, we headed straight to the bar for a signature BlackBerry bevvie. Little details like the signature drink (garnished with blackberries, natch) really made the event special.

Stations where you could try out the new PlayBook were all around the room, ensuring that all guests had a chance to play with the new gadget. Jeff made a beeline for one of the gaming stations when he arrived, testing out the pre-loaded car racing game. The staff manning each station were knowledgable and friendly, answering my questions about Kobo (yes! I could use it on my iPad AND computer AND PlayBook!) and the device itself. Their only qualm? That they weren’t going home with a PlayBook themselves!
One of the most fun aspects of the whole night was the photobooth by TheDigitalPhotobooth.com. After all, what better way is there to commemorate finally meeting your Twitter buds than to take photos in a flattering lightbox? (Looking for the rest of the #PlayBookTO pics? There’s a gallery on the Digital Photobooth website)

No detail went unnoticed by the teams at Edelman and RIM, who put on the event. The food was consistently fantastic and the tiny portions were perfect. Our favourites? Tiny takeout cartons of poutine and roasted homemade marshmallows – sinfully delicious!

DJ 4Korners spun a mix of tunes that kept us energized & having fun the whole night. He even made Miley Cryus sound cool!

The crowd was amazing at #PlayBookTO. It was great to run into @TheDanLevy, @melissaretty, @SassyGirlCanada, @jylui and more =). Thanks again to the teams at Edelman and RIM for the invite and my snazzy new PlayBook!
